He has worked at wing shooting and fly fishing lodges in the US, Mexico, and South America for many years. He is also fluent in English and Spanish. They have some of the best guides in the area working with them. Together this team will make your trip unforgettable.

We are now picking up all of our groups from the airport in Limousines.   We are now using the 5 star hotel,  Lost Ajibos Hotel, have masseuses at the lodge, new gourmet chef, building a new swimming pool at Hacienda la torkaza and have a consiguer to look after all the small details of clients needs.   Also there are now 3 airlines with flights to Bolivia.  American airlines, Loyd Aerolinea Boliviana LAB.. and Aerosur,  Aerosure flies from Miami and Washington DC and is also called Ryan international.

QUAIL Hunting in the Yucatan

The black throated quail is found only on the Yucatan peninsula. Ten to twenty-five birds are common in one covey. You can expect to see between 20-35 coveys per day. Under ideal hunting conditions, in the Yucatan, it is possible to see many more coveys. These birds have never seen hunters before and hold well in ankle to shin high grass. Do not think these buzz bombs are easy shooting, they will leave you talking to yourself.

Yucatan Outfitters hunts birds over well trained pointing dogs. Hunting is from first light until around 10:00 in the morning. After that, we will go to an ocean front restaurant or perhaps to a beach to have a great seafood lunch. After lunch you can take a siesta or go sightseeing in a small Mexican villa. Then we will resume hunting until dark.

To get to the Yucatan, you will fly into Cancun (easily reached by any US city). We will pick you up at the airport and then it will be a 2 1/2 hour drive on well paved highways. To do away with delays and hassles that could occur, we have a selection of shotguns to use at the lodge. There is no need to bring your own hunting guns.

You will want to get to Cancun on the first day at noon or before so you will be able to hunt the first day. The trip will be set up as follows: the day of arrival will be a half day hunt. The next two will be morning and afternoon hunts. The last day will be a morning hunt. After that hunt we will take you back to Cancun to catch a flight, have fun on the beaches, or meet up with the wives.

DUCK Hunting in the Yucatan

You will fly in and out of the Merida airport. We are lodging our duck hunters in the Merida area. This is the wintering home to millions of blue wing teal. These extremely fast flyers are among the sportiest of the North American ducks. No where else on this continent are they abundant and available as they are in this area.

Yucatan Outfitters has contracted some of the top duck guides in the area. Their experience combined with the concentration of teal in the Yucatan peninsula will make this adventure a must for all serious water fowlers in the seasons ahead.

Another tremendous advantage this area provides is that there are sufficient locations and populations of ducks to both enjoy morning and afternoon duck hunting.

The teal are hunted in the flooded mangrove swamps along the ocean in the North West corner of the Yucatan peninsula. Also, there are times when the flooded rice fields provide concentrations of ducks seldom seen anywhere in the world when the rain allows sufficient flooding.

Mayan Indians whose families have hunted the swamps for centuries are the guides. They are excellent callers and take extreme pride in providing a quality hunt.

TURKEY AND DOVE Hunting in the Yucatan

The ocellated turkey is sought out by hunters going after their world slam and hunters who love the sport of turkey hunting. The Yucatan peninsula has an abundant number of this exotic turkey. Yucatan Outfitters will have a few openings for next season. Make your reservations now because they are selling fast!!

We are scouting and have found some new ranches that are full of doves and red-legged pigeons. We will have everything prepared on these ranches to make sure that the action is non-stop. These are areas that have not been hunted and have A LOT of birds

Fishing with Yucatan Outfitters

Yucatan Outfitters is running a new fly fishing destination; it is backcountry tarpon and snook fishing at its finest.

We are Located on the Yucatan Peninsula’s northern coast, hundreds of miles away from all the people and well known resorts of Ascension Bay. This area has seen very few anglers. It has the unbelievable numbers and habitat for tarpon and snook.

The lodge is air conditioned and very comfortable. It sits right on the water and has balconies to sit on in the evening to enjoy a nice view of the water you just came off of. The village is a very clean, colorful, and friendly fishing village. The lodge features some of the best ‘right out of the water’ seafood around.

The guides here are very knowledgeable of fly fishing, fly tying, and conventional tackle. They also are catch and release guides, which will keep this area going for a long time.

The fish here are from 2-30 lbs. Once they reach 30-35 lbs they go out to the deeper water. This is an 8wt. fly fisherman’s paradise. Once they are hooked, these silverbacks dancing on top of the water will keep your adrenaline pumping all day long.

Another Place to Fish:
Just off the northern tip of the Yucatan Peninsula is one of the world’s greatest tarpon habitats. Isla Holbox is a little island with beautiful beaches, great lodging, seafood, and tranquility. This place is not far from the hunting area and is 3 hours by car from Cancun. We can also arrange a short 30 min flight from Cancun.

All of this plus the big tarpon will make you fall in love with Isla Holbox. While baby tarpon and snook are available year round in the shallow clear mangrove flats, it is the migratory fish that make this destination unforgettable. Beginning in April, migrating schools come into the shallows and feed in 10-40 feet of clear water. June, July and August seem to be best months with more fish and less wind. Little wind is the key to finding and hooking large tarpon and the key to keeping the water clear. These large fish seem to disappear from the area in September.

Bonefish are also present during these spring and summer months along with barracuda, permit, jack crevalle and snapper. But it is tarpon that are the big players in this area and the other species should just be considered extras.

You will have great ocean front lodging, great seafood, and outstanding guides. The owner of Tarpon Club at Isla Holbox is Alejandro Vega AKA. Mr. Sand flea. Alejandro is a very accomplished fly fisherman and fly tier. His guides have many years of guiding experience and have fished the area their entire lives.

This is a place for 3- 210 lb. Tarpon. We believe that a world record could come out of these waters.

Other Destinations:

If you would like to go to some of the famous lodges in Belize such as Turniffe Island or Elpescador these trips can be arranged as well as great off shore fishing in Cancun or Cozumel. For Sailfish, White Marlin, Mahi Mahi,Wahoo, Bonita.

Touring the Yucatan Peninsula

Before or after your hunting trip with Yucatan Outfitters you may be interested in some other adventures that are available on the Yucatan Peninsula. There are many Mayan ruins such as Chichen Itza and Ek Balam. There are also a lot of ecotourism trips available. Many people come to see all of the flamingos and many other species of birds that are in the area. There is Cancun, Playa de Carmen, and Cozumel known for their great beaches and night life. Also, snorkeling, diving and offshore fishing is available. We can recommend great places to stay in either location. If you are interested in coming back with us year after year we could set you up with a time share condominium on the beach to bring the family and friends to after a great hunting trip.

The city of Merida is a great city to visit for its history, architecture, food, culture, shopping, photo opportunities, and the friendly people. It is three hours from the hunting area and you may choose to fly in or out of Merida just to visit.
